How Keystead works: a 24/7 rental maintenance line

Keystead is an AI receptionist and maintenance line for landlords who manage their own rentals. Here is exactly what happens from the first call to the finished repair.

Step 1: A tenant calls or texts

Tenants reach Keystead on one number, (336) 729-4015, by phone or text, at any hour. The assistant answers the way a good receptionist would: it listens, asks what is wrong, and asks the follow-up questions a landlord would ask, such as where the problem is, how long it has been happening, and whether anyone is at risk.

Before sharing any account details, Keystead confirms who is asking. Verification links sent by text are part of that. If there is a fire, a gas smell, or anyone is in danger, tenants are told to call 911 first.

Step 2: Keystead triages the request

Not every repair is an emergency. A burst pipe and a squeaky door should not sit in the same queue, so each request is sorted by urgency. Emergencies rise to the top. Routine items are grouped so they can be handled in an orderly way. This triage is what lets you stop taking late-night calls about a running toilet.

Step 3: You approve with one tap

You stay in charge. Keystead sends you a clear summary of the problem, how urgent it is, and the vendor it suggests. Nothing is dispatched until you approve it. One tap approves the job, and you can always decline or ask for more detail.

Step 4: The visit is scheduled and confirmed

Once you approve, Keystead contacts the vendor and sets a time window. The tenant gets a confirmation and a reminder, then simple status updates: on the way, arrived, and done. Transparent scheduling means fewer missed appointments and fewer "where is the plumber?" messages.

Step 5: Access, only when you allow it

Keystead never hands out a door or lockbox code on its own. A code is released only for a confirmed time window that you have approved, and every entry is logged, so you always know who went in and when.

Step 6: Done, with photos

The vendor sends before-and-after photos from a text link. You see the result, and the request is closed with a record you can look back on.

What Keystead is, and is not

Keystead is a tool you control. It is not a property management company, it does not hold a real estate license, and it does not manage your property. You own the properties and make every decision. Keystead is the answering service and maintenance coordination that sits in front of them.

Keystead is currently a pilot serving landlords in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina, including Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point.
